Redundant systems to maximize your connectivity and uptime
We build in redundancy to ensure that your site is open for business. This includes Cisco routers, Layer 2 and 3 switches, our power system generator in addition to our regular grid electrical power, and our backbone. Each server is protected by our fire suppression system and multiple air conditioning systems (HVAC: Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning). In addition, we keep a supply of drives, network cards, processors, motherboards and every other piece of equipment that has even a remote chance of failure. We also use a multiple-SCSI backup cluster system for data storage and recovery.

Why a datacenter in the Midwest?
BiTExtra.com has proudly operated 100% of its services on the MAE West backbone via the Hurricane Electric facility to great success. However, since we began putting servers in there, many technological advancements have been made that we feel are essential to embrace to remain a leading dedicated server provider. It's true that just a few short years ago MAE West was the leading peering location anywhere in the world. But times are changing, and so are our customers' needs. Power requirements and connectivity have led leading bandwidth providers such as InterNAP to the Midwest. By partnering with InterNAP, BiTExtra.com is able to provide high quality bandwidth, connectivity and hybrid peering technology previously unavailable! Since 1996, BiTExtra.com’s corporate offices have been located in Iowa which has provided with a technical support staff of highly ethical hard-working individuals. Our new datacenter and subsequent features are an extension of the advantages in Iowa.
How is hosting my Server in the Midwest better than on MAE West?
Traditional ISP's randomly choose network access points or private peering points. This means that your traffic could be routed to a congested peering point or NAP, even on the MAE West backbone. InterNAP's unique spin on routing sends customer data out on its own managed intelligent routing platform. This platform analyzes the traffic situation on every major internet backbone and then selects the optimal path to deliver the information. This means that your traffic will be sent out along the correct/fastest backbone immediately! The end result is that your data will move from point A to point B in the most reliable, fastest, least congested fashion possible.
To achieve this, there are a few key points InterNAP addresses. First, InterNAP has already purchased direct access and connectivity to the major internet backbones (including MAE West). Since multiple backbones are involved, multiple routing options emerge. Essentially this means that connectivity is almost guaranteed to be available regardless of problems any one major backbone may be experiencing. As a result, BiTExtra.com will be faster, more reliable and more connected than ever before!
In addition to the connectivity, InterNAP also implemented intelligent routing software that takes full advantage of these backbones. "The Assimilator Technology" monitors global routing tables and assesses which Internet Protocol points are optimal at any given time in any given network. From there, the software then routes the data to the intended backbone through the most optimal path. The Assimilator prepares both optimal and failure scenarios and even monitors routing of data and takes action if the chosen route proves sub-optimal! Assimilator also controls the outbound routing to a backbone network from the service point while influencing inbound routing from non-Internap controlled networks.
What about the building itself?
The Midwest datacenter boasts some of the most innovative and technologically advanced implements anywhere! The datacenter itself is located in a secure area with low cost and reliable municipal utilities with an excellent service record. The building was engineered to withstand all extreme weather conditions including tornadoes, electrical storms, water-related issues and even intentional attacks! All construction materials and techniques are based on the latest "best practices" design method.
The building is two stories with the servers located on the lower sub terrain floor. The power systems throughout the building are N+1 with redundant standby generations, UPS/power conditioning, switchgear and distribution buses all the way to the racks.
All racks support up to 80amps, unlike a typical datacenter rack that supports 20amps. That's over three times the standard!
In addition to the hardware implements of the datacenter, security is optimized in ever facet. Security in the data center and NOC areas are monitored and tested extensively 24/7. Access control is layered with access available only to pre-authorized personnel. Security systems include video surveillance, card and biometric access control systems and proximity/motion sensors. Fire protection is provided through dual FM-200 gas and VESDA early smoke detections systems (primary/secondary).
